Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Let’s dive in once again and sit at the feet of our Savior! I still need that reminder daily in fact. For those who are worried, anxious, doubting, or afraid, there is a truth in Matthew 6:25-27 that we must hear. Today as we discuss this passage, I am reminded of the series Letters To The Hurting that we recently completed overlaps with this subject. He watches over and takes care of the smallest things. The thought must never leave my mind (or anyone in Christ): God is faithful. It’s those reminders that help me keep going especially in the dark times we have faced recently. I often look back and meditate upon God’s faithfulness. The song and the verses have stayed with me as the journey has moved forward. The next 6 years of school would define me as a man: I’d finish my coursework so I could enter my profession and find my wife all in that time. Truth be told, this was a big step in my life. For my parents, the song was a reminder that as I left the nest, God would still be watching over me. On that particular Sunday, the worship team played His Eye Is On The Sparrow in the service. Back when I was just leaving home and moving away to college (about 4.5 hours away from my folks), we visited a church in the city where I’d be attending school. It’s titled His Eye Is On The Sparrow and it’s had a special meaning for me over the years. I have a favorite hymn that comes from the verses of today’s My Favorite Verses blog. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? Matthew 6:25-27 I urge you to open your eyes and ears to your fate should you continue down a path of rebellion and repent of your sin.Ĭopyright 2014 – Travis D.Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Someone reading this devotion may fit the description of the son or daughter in today’s parable. Matthew 13:15 – “ For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.” This proverb warns that such a child will inevitably come to a tragic end…rejecting the umbrella of spiritual security and sanity in his parent’s household, this rebellious fool will surely come to a sad, ignoble end, and no one may be there to mourn such a waste of life. It is that spirit that Proverbs 30:17 identifies in a son or daughter who mocks his or her father and despises the mother. I have observed in those defiant eyes a hollow, desensitized soul that is frightening, cold, and tragic. The faces of youth often convey an innocent, unpretentious joy and sincerity however, those same faces, with the passing of years, sometimes etch on their countenances an angry, rebellious, squint-eyed appearance. I have studied faces in family photos over the years and have been fascinated by the change in the countenance of children as they enter their teen years. Proverbs 30: 17 – “The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it. Proverbs 30:17 instructs us that a “look in the eye” can tell you a lot about what is going on in the soul and spirit of a man. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!” 23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. Matthew 6:22-23 – “ The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. In His Sermon on the Mount, Christ taught His disciples that the eye is the light of the soul. Dreamy eyes are said to express love and affection. Wide-open eyes communicate fear, while a squint of the eyes communicates anger or disgust. It is often said, “ The eye is the window to the soul.” The eyes do communicate various emotions.
